Weekend Activities In Dublin

Weekend Activities In Dublin

Dublin is a vibrant, colourful city with plenty to see and do all week long, but the weekend is when the city really comes alive. Whether you’re focusing on your health and exploring the great outdoors, or want to soak up some of that famous craic agus ceol in the pubs and bars of Dublin, there is something for everyone. Dublin can be an expensive place to visit but DCU Rooms offers affordable accommodation on the edge of Dublin City, ideal for a group holiday. Book your stay in DCU Rooms and great value for money on shared, single and suite accommodation in Dublin.

Comedy in Dublin

We are renowned for many things in Ireland, one of which is our sense of humour. Our comic genius is known across the world with famous comics like Tommy Tiernan, Graham Norton, Ardal O’Hanlon and Joanne Mc Nally touring the world with stand-up and on TV. Find the best grassroots or up-and-comic talent on the comedy scene at a local club during your trip. Great places to start are the Laughter Lounge, which doubles as a club after hours, The International which has cheap comedy 6 nights a week, and the Craic Den At Workman’s which is always a great night out.

Music in Dublin

Music is part of the identity of Ireland and the music scene in Dublin varies greatly. You might be here to see Taylor Swift in the 3 Arena or be more interested in an intimate Trad session in a local pub – Dublin has it all. While you’ll find music in Dublin every night of the week, the best selection is at the weekend when the pubs fill up and the crowd let loose. Check what’s on in one of the arenas in Dublin like the 3 Arena, Croke Park or Aviva for the biggest international stars. Smaller but no less excellent venues include 3 Olympia Theatre, Vicar Street and The National Stadium. If all else fails, walk around busy areas like Temple Bar and Camden Street and you’re sure to hear live music coming from a local pub.

Dining in Dubin

The weekend is a time for indulgence and what could be better than a delicious meal, freshly cooked and handed to you with no washing up? Dublin has a vibrant and diverse dining scene with everything from cheap eats to fine dining and so much in between. You‘ll find cuisines from all over the world in the city centre. Try student-friendly convenience food like Wow Burger, Captain Americas, Wings World Cuisine, or Mongolian BBQ for a great feed at a great price. For something a little more up-market, you might like Dax, Chapter One, Pearl Brasserie, or an award-winning steak from FX Buckley.

Nights out in Dublin

A night out in Dublin is always one to remember. If you’re here over the weekend, all of the main pubs, clubs, bars and more are open for a memorable celebration. Try some of the most popular bars like Yamamori Tengu, Mother, Whelan’s, The Grand Social, The George, The Workman’s Club, Pygmalion and so many others! Join tourists and locals for live music and a late drink in Bad Bob’s Temple Bar or the famous Copperface Jacks. South William Street, George’s Street, Camden Street and Harcourt Street are areas for more upscale dinner and drinks. Remember pubs close around 12.30 pm on weekends and nightclubs’ last orders are around 2.30 pm so get out early to enjoy for longer.

Wholesome Day Activities

Dublin isn’t all wild nights out, although we would recommend trying them! There are plenty of activities you can do in the daytime, without alcohol. Take a trip to the excellent Dublin Zoo where you can spend a whole day admiring the animals and their habitat. While you’re in the park, pop into the tearoom, admire the wild deer and see what’s on in Farmleigh – the official Irish guesthouse. Closer to your home from home, make time to visit the Botanic Gardens and admire the natural flora and fauna or learn more about Irish history in Glasnevin Cemetery. Dublin has a fantastic shopping scene if you need some retail therapy and for a creative fix, there are a dozen theatres across town usually showing something exciting at the weekend.

The possibilities are endless for a weekend in Dublin. Plan an affordable trip to Dublin when you choose DCU Rooms as your accommodation. We look forward to welcoming you!
