Things to do in Dublin

You could do something new in Dublin every day of the year and not have to repeat! Dublin is a vibrant, busy city with plenty to see and do, especially during the warmer months. Guests can enjoy sightseeing, museums, galleries, and landmarks or spend days shopping, lounging in parks, hiking, swimming in the sea and so much more! Here are some of our favourite things to do in Dublin:

Dublin is a fantastic place when the sun shines. Locals make the most of the good weather by spending time in local parks and gardens and soaking up the sun. City centre parks include the beautiful St Stephens Green, the stylish Merrion Square Park and Dublin’s hidden gem Iveagh Gardens. More locally, guests can visit Albert College Park or the stunning National Botanic Gardens. During your stay, you have time to visit Phoenix Park, the largest city park in Dublin that is home to Ireland’s President, herds of wild deer and Dublin Zoo.

If you’re feeling brave and want to take a dip in the Irish Sea during your stay, there are lots of lovely coastal towns and areas to visit. Hop on a DART (Dublin’s train line) and head North to Howth or Portmarnock or South to Brey and Dun Laoghaire. There are hikes, swimming spots, lookouts and often amusement arcades to enjoy in many coastal spots. After a refreshing dip, treat yourself to an ice cream or some world-famous fish and chips for supper before heading back to your accommodation in Glasnevin.

If you’re in Dublin on a less-than-perfect weather day (unfortunately there will be a few even in summer!) spend some time exploring the excellent free museums and galleries of Dublin. Merrion Square has a concentration of National galleries that are free to enter. IMMA, Hugh Lane Gallery and the Little Museum of Dublin are great spots to spend a few hours and many offer student discounts. Trace your roots in the brilliant EPIC museum where you’ll also learn about Irish emigration. You can add some tourist hotspots to your list like GPO, Trinity College and the unforgettable Guinness Storehouse.

Dublin is a fantastic place for dining out, especially as a student. We have cuisines from all over the world ranging from our neighbouring UK and France to African, Lebanese and beyond. Whether you’re looking for fine dining or street food, we have dining options to suit all budgets. We have an excellent restaurant and canteen on-site here in DCU. Locally, there are some excellent restaurants in Drumcondra and Glasnevin like Shouk, The Lovely Food Company and plenty of great pub grub. In Dublin city, you’re truly spoiled for choice with hundreds of restaurants each offering something unique. Remember to ask for a student discount if you’re not offered.
