Solo travel is no longer for lonely hearts. Today, we’re realising the value of exploring new places through solo travel and the convenience of sticking to your schedule only. If you’re planning a solo trip, Dublin is one of the most welcoming and friendly cities in Europe. It’s a place of history and heritage, art and culture, fun and frolics and everything in between. From drinking pints with locals in the pub to exploring landmarks and libraries in your own time, Dublin is a friendly and welcoming place for a solo trip. DCU Rooms offer a cheaper alternative to traditional hotel accommodation in Dublin. Our location between the city and the airport is ideal for lone travellers and there are plenty of opportunities to make friends on campus.

Solo Things to Do in Dublin

Imagine following no one’s schedule but your own. You eat when you want to, stop where you want to and only visit spaces that interest you. There are endless things to do in Dublin, some better with a group but many are best enjoyed alone.

Trinity College is one of the oldest and most famous campuses in Ireland. Take your time and walk through the grounds of the college, admiring the beauty of the architecture and art. The Long Room is one of the most impressive rooms in the college and has even inspired movie backdrops. Visit the magnificent Book of Kells on campus, a fascinating religious text meticulously hand-illustrated by Celtic Monks. It’s one of the landmarks of Dublin that you should put on your bucket list.
If you find yourself drawn to bookshops when solo travelling in Dublin, Marshes Library is the ultimate indulgence. Marsh’s Library is Dublin’s oldest public library and one of the few remaining 18th-century libraries in the world. Learn more about the famous authors who studied here like Jonathan Swift, Bram Stoker, and James Joyce, find out why they were locked in cages and see if you feel anything from the ghost of its former patrons.

If you love to explore wide open spaces when travelling, Phoenix Park is a space you could get lost. Its 707 hectares of recreational space includes rolling fields, playgrounds, the state guesthouse, herds of wild deer, flower gardens and even our very own White House, Aras an Uachtarain. One of the main attractions in the park is Dublin Zoo a habitat for over 400 animals. The best way to see it all is to hire a bike at the main entrance and enjoy a leisurely cycle for as long as you like.
A great way to get to know a new place is to take a tour from a local. If you’re alone, there are plenty of free walking tours in all languages to help you get your bearings and give you some background on the city and its history. If you want to see more of the city faster, you can also take a Dublin Bus tour. There are tours ranging from history and revolution to afternoon tea and ghost stories!

It would be a shame to visit Dublin and not enjoy a pint of Guinness in the world-famous Temple Bar. We have some of the most friendly pubs in the world in Dublin and even if you’re travelling alone, you won’t be long finding new friends from all over the world in Temple Bar. The area has everything from traditional Irish music and dancing to late-opening nightclubs, so something for all tastes.
